Yumbe’s own Calvary FC has officially secured promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after a remarkable 2024/25 FUFA Big League campaign. Clinching the championship, the Horizon Stars celebrated a remarkable spirit with 52 points, earned through grit, consistency, and decisive victories.
On June 21, 2025, under rain-laden skies at Midigo Primary School, Calvary edged close rivals Paidha Black Angels with a thrilling 1–0 win, the decisive goal found the net in the 79th minute, sealing both match and league title.
A resilient 0–0 draw at Onduparaka in Arua kept pressure on top spots.
The derby win against Paidha brought both triumph and an automatic berth in Uganda’s top football tier.

Calvary becomes one of the few clubs from West Nile to reach the Premier League, joining Onduparaka, Arua Hill, and Paidha.
Promotion didn’t come easy. Both Gaddafi FC and Buhimba United Saints also earned spots with 50 points each, behind only goal difference.
Head Coach Simon Otim reflected on the achievement:
“This is a moment my boys and I have been yearning for all these years. Keeping in the Big League for four seasons shows resilience,”
Calvary FC now embarks on a vital pre-season to bolster the squad, and prepare for the demands of Premier League football.
