ABOUT CALVARY FOOTBALL CLUB
Calvary Football Club, also known as The Horizon Stars, is a football club based in Midigo Town Council, Yumbe District, West Nile, Uganda. Founded in 2008, the club began as a youth-led initiative aimed at engaging young people and nurturing football talent in Midigo. Initially supported by Calvary Chapel – Midigo, the club entered competitive football through Uganda’s 5th Division, with a clear mission to provide a platform for local players to develop and progress.
Early Growth and Development
In it’s early years, Calvary FC focused on grassroots football, promoting community participation and disciplined training. The team was promoted to the 4th Division after two seasons and continued to rise steadily. By the 2012/2013 season, the club had earned promotion to the West Nile Regional League, competing against more established teams in the region.
Ascent to the FUFA Big League
In 2020, Calvary FC reached the FUFA Big League, Uganda’s second-tier professional football division. Despite operating with limited resources, the club maintained strong performances and gradually built a reputation for resilience and tactical discipline. Their time in the Big League set the stage for a major breakthrough.
2024/25: A Historic Breakthrough
The 2024/2025 season proved to be the club’s most successful to date. Calvary FC won the FUFA Big League title, finishing the season with 52 points. A 1–0 victory over Paidha Black Angels in a decisive West Nile derby secured the championship and confirmed their promotion to the top tier.
With that triumph, Calvary FC earned its first-ever promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, becoming the first team from Yumbe District to reach the highest level of Ugandan football. The achievement marked a significant milestone, not just for the club, but for the entire West Nile region, reflecting years of commitment, community support, and player development.
